When I say "doomscrolling", you think about endlessly scrolling through bad news and getting all depressed.
And officially, that IS the definition of the word. In my opinion, it's totally wrong!
The fact is that the same brain chemical hooks are involved in ANY kind of infinite-scroll consumption of content. The 'bad news bingeing' version just happens to be the most depressing - and the most talked about for obvious reasons.
Big Data and social media sites know exactly what they're doing when they get you "hooked".
So what's the mechanism? And more importantly, how do you STOP doomscrolling?
