In 1992, a man by the name of Preston Nichols came forward with an unbelievable story, alleging that the United States government had been conducting experiments into the field of psychotronics. These weren’t just investigations into the concept of remote viewing or telepathy, though. If Nichols was to be believed, then a military facility at Montauk Point on Long Island had been the site of experiments into weather manipulation, mind control, and even time travel. It seemed far-fetched at first, but there was something about Nichols’s book which people just couldn’t ignore - an intimate degree of familiarity with the details of the project. That only made sense. Nichols was up front about the fact that he’d been one of the technicians on the project, and though he understood that he would be judged for his involvement, people needed to know the truth. His first book, The Montauk Project: Experiments in Time was his attempt at revealing that truth, and with its release, a new conspiracy theory was born.
