Welcome to Flagstaff Bound, a special Cocodona 250 series brought to you by the @DistanceToEmptyPod and hosted by Kevin Goldberg and Peter Noyes.
Fresh off a dominant victory at this year's Arizona Monster 300, legendary ultra runner Mike McKnight joins Flagstaff Bound to discuss his return to the Cocodona 250. As the 2023 champion and a perennial threat in the 200 plus mile scene, Mike shares how he balances recovery and intensity when stacking world class efforts back to back. We dive into his massive 2026 schedule, which includes another run at the Triple Crown of 200s, and what keeps him motivated to show up at the start line of the most grueling races on the calendar.
Mike opens up about the evolution of his racing strategy, from his famous low carb, high fat fueling approach to the mental grit required to navigate the "lows" of multi day racing. After conquering 300 miles of rugged Arizona terrain just months ago, he breaks down his specific preparation for the Cocodona course and the unique challenges of the point to point journey from Black Canyon City to Flagstaff.
