Deep within the absolute center of the Burning Sea, at the heart of Hitehkel, stands an architectural miracle that defies the very laws of Krynn: the Flaemchaldar, or the Tower of Flame. Buy Time of the Dragon: dmsguild.com/en/product/16960/time-of-the-dragon-2e?affiliate_id=50797

Rising directly out of a roaring sea of molten lava, a shifting, five-hundred-foot pillar of pure flame holds an impossible secret: step through its burning walls, and the air becomes as sweet, cool, and breathable as a mountain spring.
Intro
Welcome to another DragonLance Saga episode. My name is Adam, and today we are exploring a structure so bizarre and wondrous that it challenges the physics of the Prime Material Plane. The gnomes call it the Flaemchaldar, but to the rest of the world, it is known as the Tower of Flame. I'd like to take a moment and thank the DLSaga members and Patreon patrons, and invite you to consider becoming a member or patron — you can even pick up Dragonlance media or get $10 by signing up to StartPlaying.Games using my affiliate links. I'm referencing the Time of the Dragon boxed set for this information. If I leave anything out or misspeak, please leave a comment below.

From a distance, the Tower of Flame does not look like a building at all. It appears as a twisting, leaping column of roaring fire, dancing violently in the heat-shimmering winds yet rooted immovably to a single spot in the center of the Burning Sea. Closer inspection reveals walls that flicker, writhe, and curl upward in brilliant hues of deep orange, vibrant yellow, and occasional flashes of cobalt blue. Millions of individual flames dance within its surfaces, throwing out tiny, spiraling jets of fire into the soot-choked sky.
Yet, upon reaching the base, the true miracle of the Flaemchaldar is revealed. The tower is indeed made of living fire, magically bound into the shape of a massive spire. But this flame is completely devoid of heat. The walls are warm to a gentle touch, and they are firm but yielding to a determined push. However, do not be fooled: forcing your way deep past the surface layer breaks the protective containment, causing instantaneous, lethal incinerating burns.
Even more terrifying is the floor. Walking inside feels like stepping onto a bubbling, swirling pool of active magma. The glowing stone constantly wells up from below, yet its surface is as hard and unyielding as polished marble. This psychological horror causes a localized phenomenon known as "magma-panic," where first-time visitors freeze completely in place, utterly convinced their next step will plunge them into a fiery cauldron. Yet, inside this hellish exterior, the air is sweet, pure, and cool. An unbreakable, magical bubble of oxygen completely encases the spire, preventing a single drop of the surrounding toxic, sulfurous gases from ever breaching the open balconies.
For centuries, the origin of the tower remained a total mystery, hidden from mortal scholars by the sheer unhabitability of the lava sea. Gnomish scouts in experimental gliders were the first to catch glimpses of it from the air, spotting evil dragons landing on the upper terraces and shadowy human figures—wizards using powerful conjuration magic—standing on the flaming balconies.
While the practical Gnomoi engineers dismissed it as an impossible natural anomaly, old legends suggest a much grander origin: the tower is a direct creation of the Grathanich. When the chaotic, magical stone of Reorx escaped its constraints, it wandered Krynn before plunging into the magma pit of Hitehkel during the Cataclysm. The stone’s raw, reality-warping power instantly raised the Tower of Flame out of the magma. Unbeknownst to the tinker gnomes, a fragment of the Grathanich remains sealed inside to this day, acting as the literal, foundational keystone holding the entire magical structure together...
