Every now and then you come across something so different that you just can't pass it up. That's what I found this weekend in San Antonio, Texas. Barney Smith decorates toilet seats as his hobby. He has been decorating them for over 70 years and today, at the age of 96, he is still making new toilet seats to put in his museum, which he calls The Toilet Seat Art Museum. Barney has been showing the museum since 08/17/1992, so for close to 26 years, people have been coming from all over the world to see Barney's toilet seat art. Barney keeps track of everyone who comes to see him in binders that he has had since the first day he showed the museum. He asks everyone where they are from and even has them sign the toilet seat from their corresponding state. But perhaps more interesting than the seats themselves is Barney himself. For 96, Barney is very sharp, I was amazed at how well he remembered the stories behind each toilet seat in his museum. He still remembers exactly where everything is and how he came across the items he puts on his toilet seats. While it is a pretty random and kind of strange hobby, it was a pretty interesting experience seeing and talking to Barney. Thumbs up for weird hobbies, and don't forget to subscribe!
