Dr. Daniel Byman, Director of the CSIS Warfare, Irregular Threats, and Terrorism (WITT) Program, is joined by Dr. Tricia Bacon, CSIS Senior Associate (Non-resident) with the WITT Program and a Professor at American University’s School of Public Affairs, to evaluate the terrorist threat from Afghanistan five years after the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the country. They examine concerns American policymakers had in the run-up to the U.S. exit, assess how the terrorism landscape in Afghanistan has shifted in the wake of the withdrawal, and discuss how U.S. counterterrorism policy has been shaped as a result.
