In a room behind a large church in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, a group of people meet every Friday evening to share their stories. Their lives have been directly or indirectly destroyed by betting and gambling. Some have gambled away their money themselves, others have family members who are addicted. On Friday evening they talk and listen to each other, trying to heal their wounds and create a new reality for themselves.
"To achieve that you have to believe, not only in God, but also in your fellow man," says Marko Romić, the psychologist who guides this group. Not an easy task in a city where the Bosnian war has left deep scars and where divisions between population groups based on their religion and nationality are still palpable. Yet in this group for gambling addicts they find solidarity, despite all differences. But the temptations and social pressure are great. Will these people, who have lost more or less everything they owned, persevere and free themselves from their guilt and grief?
