The tale of Genji by Lady Murasaki Shikibu is the world’s first novel written a thousand years ago. It’s also the most important work of Japanese literature. In this video I will tell you ten unique things about this novel and tell you how Japan today is similar to Heian period in 10th century. At the end I will compare the tale of Genji with Marcel Proust’s novel in Search of Lost time.
