Arts in the Parks, a collaborative program presented by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Ohio Arts Council, celebrates NATURE’S PLAYGROUND through four seasonally themed paintings that explore recreation through a whimsical perspective. Artists were challenged to encourage Ohioans, through art, to explore the diverse seasons, landscapes and recreational opportunities at Ohio State Parks.
Four groups of high school students and their visual art educators were asked to imagine a world where native flora and fauna participate in recreational activities. Each group proposed sketches to the Arts in the Parks Coordinator, resulting in the colorful nature-inspired art found before you. The teen artists found themselves immersed within the elements of our beautiful state parks and learned about Ohio’s natural resources as they embraced NATURE’S PLAYGROUND through creative exploration and mark making with paint.
