The story so far: how is our Sustainable PLFs 2040 journey progressing?  @royalsocietyofchemistry

Royal Society of Chemistry President Dr Annette Doherty OBE shares an update on the PLFs sector’s progress since the launch of the Sustainable PLFs Revolution roadmap one year ago.

Polymers in liquid formulations (PLFs) are a broad group of polymers that are liquid during manufacture or at the point of application. Almost no-one knows about these crucial chemicals but almost everyone uses them as they can be found in millions of daily household products – but they also have significant environmental impacts.

Chemicals pollution and climate change are two areas where people are crying out for change. PLFs can be part of that change. Most of the 36 million tonnes’ worth of them produced every year are derived from fossil fuels and virtually none are recovered, reused or recycled. Given the risks to our health and our environment, that cannot continue – and that is where the expertise of the chemical sciences comes in.
