Ok I got some questions so I better explain myself. This is a cheap veggie steamer bought on IKEA. The thought on this being stealthy is you burn it hard with dry twigs. A few seconds of knee high flames then you fold it up and leave it for 10 minutes and there is no smoke or visible flames what so ever from it. Some smoke still rises from under the pot but I dont think its a problem as it disperse quickly. So its actually visible for a few seconds but one can take precautions for those few seconds to cover the flame with a cloth, yourself or a backpack. There is some smoke when I do this but that is because those twigs were very damp.
Also people ask why I use two pots. First of all its not 2 pots. Its one aluminum pot and a plastic kuksa that happened to fit perfectly around this kit. A bigger kuksa like this or a smaller wooden one is with every swede in the woods. Its used to collect water, snow, you drink coffee or eat from it. An aluminum pot is not good to eat from if you use metal cutlery. Or rather you simply shall not do that for health reasons. Even though I just made ramen soup the kuksa is needed,,because aluminum is extremely heat conductive. You can't drink from an aluminum pot as long as the soup is hot without burning your lips. And the soup cools down some when pouring it into another vessel. And last but not least....not EVERYTHING is survival. One could use something just for pleasure really. I just like camping.
Not for extensive cooking. Perfect for a quick cup of coffee or some noodles. Twigs burns fast and with not much smoke. Especially in summer. Embers don't soot your pan as much. Leaves no trace. I tried softwood and it did work but I think hardwood like birch twigs would be perfect. Makes much better embers.
