This month WNYC headed out to the HANAC Harmony JVL Older Adult Center in Astoria, Queens for the second event for In Conversation: The Affordability Series, a five-part live community series focused on New York City’s affordability crisis.
This installment examines New York City’s small two and three family homes, where an owner may live in one unit and rent out another. “NYC Now” host Janae Pierre and WNYC and Gothamist housing reporter David Brand were joined by New York State Senator Julia Salazar, Troy Kingston, a content creator known as Scourge Bliss who talks about housing, homeowner and landlord Oudit Beharry and others. The conversation explored rising costs, limited tenant protections, basement apartment legalization, home flipping and what it would take to keep more New Yorkers in their homes.
