Welcome back to our early morning seminary teacher training series! In this video, we explore how to start your class with a purposeful, brief devotional that unites your students and sets the spiritual tone for the entire lesson.

Key Concepts Covered in This Training:
The Power of a Purposeful Start: Every class should begin with a brief devotional. A well-executed devotional is an excellent way to unite students by turning their thoughts and their hearts to spiritual things, helping everyone feel the Spirit and be ready to learn.

The Core Components of a Devotional: An effective devotional generally consists of three simple elements: a hymn, a prayer, and a thought from the scriptures. These moments become most powerful when students use the time to share feelings and insights they have had in their personal scripture study and when they bear testimony.

Crucial Cautions and Pitfalls: It is vital to keep devotionals brief. Long or elaborate devotionals take precious time away from the lesson and may actually cause the Spirit to withdraw. Furthermore, devotionals that include the serving of refreshments will almost certainly promote a light and playful mood rather than a spiritual one.

Empowering Student Leaders: Teachers do not need to manage devotionals entirely on their own. Teachers should take time to talk with students, especially class leaders, about the purpose of devotionals. Counseling together helps leaders understand what they can do to make devotionals better and how they can encourage everyone in the class to participate.

Watch now to learn how to keep your class devotionals simple, spiritual, and focused on sharing personal testimony from daily scripture study!
