spilled across the milky way

now that the spirits are drunk
on the idea of having ideas
i'll come and take your hand

rests, riffs, and raptures
tote up the stars on a ledger sheet and
dance me to the heights

hold on to me
just as tight as i hold on to you
while the world rights itself

then i hear you say:
"the earth was created to sell jealousy
to the devil

"ain't no such thing as free
only more and more insidious
forms of slavery

"earthquake, fire or flood
or jaguars raining from the sky
is how the universe will end"

then picasso-like
she splintered into twos and threes and fours
like chords that rise in fifths

a fey yet consistent surrender
chronicling ancient myths even as we
live all new ones
