In 1970, Marvel licensed Spider-Man to Kodansha and allowed them to create their own version of the character. Ryoichi Ikegami created a grim, dark, but fascinating Spider-Man manga. Technically, this would be gekiga, aimed at an older audience. This video breaks down the history of its creation, the people that developed and published it, the one and a half year run, and why it failed in both Japan and America.
