I stumbled across this technique while deep in the trenches of designing sounds for our upcoming sample pack, Silver Veil 2.

I was trying to nail that aggressive bass aesthetic metallic grit of Skrillex and ISOxo. I had a solid foundation, but the bass felt "static." I needed that extra layer of movement and harmonic complexity that makes a sound feel alive, rather than just a flat, processed waveform.

While experimenting with FabFilter Pro-Q4, I started pushing the Spectral processing capabilities, you can do this same technique with Soothe, but I feel like you have a bit more control in Pro-Q. Instead of using it for typical "surgical" cleanup, I began using it as a creative sound design tool to dynamically expand and sculpt the harmonics. The result was exactly what I was looking for: a way to add instant "weight" and character that turns it from just a sub element to something more interesting and impressive.
