The woderful basalt columns on the Skagi peninsula are well worth the detour from Skagaströnd village or Blönduós village which is by the actual Ring Road. But this phenomena is however by the Arctic Coast Way and if you do a winter trip around here, it's a great idea to seek local advice first in regards of the road condition. Check out the nearby town trough the link below and it's more to come online soon from this region.
The remains of the houses you see on the cove are from a small community of little over100 inhabitants that was abandoned around 1940.
