The Soloist (2009) was directed by Joe Wright. The plot is based on the true story of Nathaniel Ayers, a musician who developed schizophrenia and became homeless.
Dario Marianelli wrote a very classically inspired score for this film, Bach and Beethoven looming large. The cello is one of the main characters, and many tracks were written for cello solo. The accordion interlude is a kind of four-part Bach-style choral harmonisation, that every student of Western classical music has tried their hand at. This one might even have been sitting in Maestro Marianelli's drawer since his student days i Italy... I did some adjustments in the harmonics to fit the piece to the piano.
