The Carolingian Westwork and Civitas Corvey, near Höxter in North Rhine-Westphalia, was constructed between AD 822 and 885. Once a thriving Benedictine abbey, it became one of the most important spiritual and cultural centers of the early Middle Ages. Today, visitors can explore the iconic twin-towered westwork, ornate interiors with Carolingian wall paintings, and a historic library with more than 74,000 volumes. The site has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
