Unique star systems are nothing new in Stellaris, ranging from places with ringworlds, broken megastructures, weird space weather, and a wide variety of other things. However, First Contact has introduced the Solar Punk Empire, a Hyperion inspired species that has stolen several Gaia worlds, retreated to their system and now just kick back, relax and have a thriving civilization in a place where that shouldn't be possible.
