In this video, I review The Snake Woman (1961), one of the latest releases in the Hammer Presents line. Directed by Sidney J. Furie, this strange and atmospheric British horror film blends gothic horror, monster movie thrills, village superstition, and creature-feature storytelling into a wonderfully quirky slice of early 1960s horror. Hammer has now restored the film from the original negatives and given it its first-ever Blu-ray release.
While not an original Hammer production, The Snake Woman feels heavily inspired by the gothic horror boom Hammer helped create during the late 1950s and early 1960s. The film follows a Scotland Yard detective investigating a series of mysterious snakebite deaths in a remote village, uncovering a terrifying local legend along the way.

Produced on a modest budget and originally released as part of a double bill alongside Doctor Blood's Coffin, the film has developed a cult following among fans of British horror and creature features.
