Anthropic just released Claude Fable 5.1, and in this video I put the new model through a real-world AI coding test. I gave Fable 5.1 a complete brain dump and asked it to design and build Smol Coder, a lightweight coding agent for local models running through Ollama and LM Studio.
π Agentic Labs β exclusive AI coding courses, live Q&As, workshops & the full QR Studio SaaS build (auth, database, file storage, production): skool.com/agentic-labs
π Free RAMP course + all the resources from my videos: skool.com/leonvanzyl
The goal was to see how capable Claude Fable 5.1 really is at agentic coding, software architecture, tool design and building a complete project from scratch. We go from the initial requirements and planning all the way to publishing Smol Coder on npm and testing it with local Ollama and LM Studio models.
One of the most interesting moments was when Fable 5.1 pushed back on my original tool design β and it turned out to be right. This is a practical look at Anthropic's new Claude Fable 5.1 model, how it approaches AI coding, and what it's like using it on a real software project.
