Miniature pots are this week's topic. Tiny vessels, jars, bowls and vases, to eventually use in tandem with larger collections of vessels, or as pieces to top the towers of pots I often create and exhibit.
This week, I'm taking you through the entire process, (although we're skipping through the throwing & trimming, which I've already covered in a lot of detail: youtu.be/Yxyn60FBnqU). Pieces this small require a different approach, thin walls can be distorted or bowed inward simply from applying too much pressure, thus I found sharp tools work best, yet this does mean one small slip destroys the pieces.
To some degree I view creating miniature pots as a novelty—mainly as there are makers who specialise in them and nothing else—they're like pots for doll's houses. Yet, after creating this batch of tiny vessels I simply fell in love with them... pieces this small are covetable and sweet, precious objects to hold and use, to pair with larger pieces or to simply display. I can't wait to build taller totems using these or to pair a tiny angular bowl with its much larger brother.
