When the church of St Nicholas in Monkton, near Pembroke, was renovated in 1882, several gruesome discoveries were made. Firstly, upon opening up a staircase and doorway that had once led to a room above the foyer, a human skeleton was found inside. The legend sometimes refers to the bones as male, and sometimes as female...for some reason. It's believed they belonged to a monk or nun, who had broken some rule and was walled in alive as punishment. Beneath the floor of the church, many human bones were found. They were reinterred in a mass grave beneath a cross outside the church. The cross is seen in this video, and this part of the story is almost certainly true. The ghost that allegedly haunts Monkton Old Hall, right next to the cemetery, and once part of the priory that included the church, is said to be that of this unfortunate nun. Or is possibly the reason the skeleton switched gender in 1934. It's not clear why the paranormal activity that has frequently been witnessed at the Old Hall, is thought to be connected to the skeleton in the wall.
