📖 What is Ohio Revised Code 2919.22? Ohio law separates child endangering into different tiers. While basic violations are prosecuted as first-degree misdemeanors, any violation that results in "serious physical harm" to a child is automatically elevated. Because the state alleges the 16 Siders children suffered extreme, life-threatening neglect, the parents and grandparents have been hit with 16 counts each of second-degree felonies.
Under Ohio law, a single second-degree felony count carries a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 2 to 8 years, with a maximum of 12 years and a $15,000 fine . If a judge orders these sentences to run consecutively, the mathematical maximum reaches nearly 192 years in prison .
