Roosevelt Franklin was the brainchild of media trailblazer Matt Robinson, father of Holly Robinson Peete. Matt was brought on in Sesame Street's formative years by the Children's Television Workshop to solidify their commitment to bring programming to inner city Black and brown children. But the road was not a smooth one for Matt. He received resistance, not only from the CTW, but from a source he never thought would present his greatest opposition -- Black and brown parents.
