The Secret Cleanup Crew | The Key To A Thriving Aquarium
The real "secret" to a thriving aquarium isn't something you usually buy in a bag at the pet store. These are the tiny organisms that live in your substrate and filter.
Copepods & Ostracods: Tiny crustaceans that eat algae and decaying matter. They also serve as a high-protein "live snack" for your fish.
Detritus Worms: While they might look scary to beginners, they are like the earthworms of the aquarium. They live in the substrate, breaking down waste and aerating the soil to prevent "dead spots."
Beneficial Bacteria: The true engine of the tank. They convert toxic ammonia (from fish waste) into nitrites and then into nitrate, which plants then use as fertilizer.
