The Scott Joplin Mural in Texarkana, Texas, was filmed on January 17, 2022. The Mural was originally designed by Debra Moseley-Lord in 1984, restored in 1998 by C.D. Little and Janette Lantrip and most recently made new in 2015 by Art Pletcher.
Scott Joplin grew up in Texarkana, where he attended the Orr School for Black students. Joplin's musical talent was supported by his mother, in spite of crushing poverty, and recognized by a local music teacher, Julius Weiss, who began teaching him for free.
This program premiered on the Public Access Television Channel at the PEGASYS Community Media Center in Ithaca NY as part of the series Over the Shoulder.
