Hi friends! Why are boys underperforming girls at every key stage from primary to secondary school? Why are boys more likely to get excluded, less likely to go to university and less likely to be apprentices than girls? Is it because they have too many female teachers? Is it that schools isn't designed for boys?
Today I'm breaking down some of my biggest takeaways from the evidence-based book by two male teachers: Why Boys Don't Try by Matt Pinkett and Mark Roberts. It breaks down the data on everything from male mental health, to the influence of poverty on young boys in school. Note: My discussion of gender here is intentionally binary and simplified for the intended audience. For example, I am using 'male' and 'man' interchangeably in this video which might be uncomfortable for queer or trans folk. As a queer person myself, I believe that gender deserves more nuanced discussions, but my aim with this video is to reach audiences for whom that language may not be as accessible, and was not the point of the video.
