Many countries around the world hold snap elections, wherein the prime minister can schedule a national election before election day, but only New Zealand has ever held a Schnapps Election. The year is 1984 and Prime Minister Robert Muldoon is having trouble getting his party members to fall in line, so one night he has a bit to drink and he says “Screw it, we’re calling an election” goes out to talk to the press, still sloshed, and they ask him: "that doesn't give you much time to run up to an election, does it?"
