Drawing inspiration from the Salon des Refusés, the French "exhibition of the rejected," The Integral Stage brings you Salon of the Banned. In this series, we check in with individuals who have been kicked out, de-platformed, or threatened with suppression in ostensibly advanced philosophical, spiritual, or political discussion forums, or putatively free modern communication media. In the age of cancel-culture and anti-cancel-culture, we explore the thorny questions of who should be in which conversations, and why?
In Episode 7 of SALON OF THE BANNED, Brendan Graham Dempsey joins The Integral Stage as a guest host, interviewing Layman Pascal on his own positions on inclusion and exclusion; banning or platforming problematic people; whether he would speak to Hitler or Ted Bundy, and under what conditions; and whether integral spaces aim primarily to include people at all stages of development, or at mostly postmodern and post-postmodern stages. In the latter half of the interview, the conversation turns to controversial guru-figures within integral and integral-adjacent spaces, such as Andrew Cohen and Marc Gafni, and the question of whether there is still room for Godmen and guru-student relations in a Metamodern spirituality.
