Western Washington University established the Salish Sea Institute (SSI) to enhance awareness and protection of the Salish Sea. We foster knowledge-sharing across disciplines and borders, recognizing that transboundary, interdisciplinary collaboration is crucial for effective conservation of this diverse ecosystem. SSI offers a Salish Sea Studies minor, educating students about the region's history, ecology, culture, and management challenges. We also host workshops and webinars, support various professionals through our fellowship program, and publish reports to disseminate scientific findings and management strategies. This presentation will introduce the Salish Sea Institute, highlight our ongoing work, and emphasize the importance of a transboundary approach to Salish Sea conservation.
The Environmental Speaker Series is free and open to the public. Talks are held each Thursday at 4:30pm in Academic Instructional Center West, room 204. Join us at WWU or online on Zoom!
