Holly Herndon has spent the last decade building at the frontier of music and AI, from the albums Platform and PROTO to Holly+, the first artist-controlled voice model, to the data consent tools behind Spawning. This talk covers her approach to making art with AI, what she calls Protocol Art: a process-based practice of designing the rule set that creates the conditions for art to be made. Holly will discuss how the model-making process becomes a site of authorship, and where her studio with Mat Dryhurst is heading next: orchestrating agents while remaining at the conceptual center.
