Current clinical practice guidelines recommend clinicians use prediction algorithms to help inform when and which medications best mitigate a patient’s risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). This course will explore the key elements of algorithm performance and the factors that make an algorithm an effective clinical tool. We will also examine the data and assumptions present in familiar risk assessment tools. The course presents strategies used to develop contemporary clinical algorithms, like the PREVENT models, that replace historical assumptions with current data in predicting risk for CVD.
