Vonn Lee was 12 years old when she watched her mother and three siblings drown in the Mekong river as she and her family tried to flee Laos during the Vietnam war. Thirty-four years later, she is now a nurse in Syracuse and got the chance to go back to her homeland on a two-week medical mission to help her people and return to the river to finally bid her mother goodbye.
