Penny for your thoughts on One Battle After Another.
just saw this and here are my quick rapid fire thoughts on it.
To be or not to be, that is the question for me with this movie. It dips one toe in and out, staying just safe enough to maintain aloofness.
I can tell what it wants to be, part of me I guess is glad that it couldn't fully pull off what it was trying to be. I've stopped looking to media like this for idealism, answers or innovation very long ago and I worry certain messages can be misconstrued at this level of consumption without connection to the radical thought beneath it.
I don't want to do a super deep dive on this one tbh. It was just kind of underwhelming and I don't really care that much, (ontop of being in the process of moving) but I DO THINK we should totally be discussing how the aesthetic of radical uprising is going to used more and more to capitalize on, lest we be distracted by it. I'd be insulted if the world wasn't on fire with 823 more important other things.
I'll dive deep on my substack. Until then, stay woke friends.
