Alexander Arguelles | The Rejected Heritage of the Middle Ages - French, German, Spanish, Latin, Norse Literature @ProfASAr | Uploaded March 2022 | Updated October 2024, 1 week ago.
The Middle Ages (500-1500 AD) was a period of incredible intellectual variety and richness that has been preserved in a vast body of literature in French, German, Spanish, Latin, Norse, and many other languages. However, this literature is unfortunately often ignored, neglected, and excluded from consideration for inclusion in the tradition of the Great Conversation, where it so rightly belongs. In this video, I show some texts from my own collection to fill the 800-year gap between Augustine and Aquinas in the 54-volume Great Books of the West.
Time Stamps:
00:00 Historical contextualization, or why medieval literature and thought are neglected
15:50 Latin Literature
22:20 Spanish Literature
29:20 French Literature
40:15 German Literature
46:55 Norse Literature
49:38 Conclusion
