This is a charming French film about the joys and harshness of life told through a child's eyes. A young boy is befriended by a very unusual red balloon , he meets on the street one day. I showed this to my youngest nephew (all my nephews & nieces loved it) a few years ago when he was four. He intently watched it, mesmerized, though he he wanted to stop watching when the gang of boys chased the boy down the street and stole the balloon (all I'm saying here), but I convinced him to finish watching it to the end, which he did. He quietly watched this film, he was so intent upon it, and he is not a quiet sit still child either ! Janus Films- 1956 The score is sweet too.
