Months after D-Day, a group of primarily African American service members came together to help the Allies expand the breakout from their newly acquired beachhead in Normandy. On August 25, 1944, the famed Red Ball Express was born. For 83 days, nearly six thousand trucks created a non-stop convoy system carrying rations, gasoline, ammunition, and other essential equipment to troops throughout France.
