In the last few years, all brands have launched their middleweight adventure motorcycles. Is this a modern hype or a step in the right direction? In this video, I will share my thoughts on this topic.
People have different opinions about how much the motorcycle should weigh. That's why, before we start the video, let's first define what I mean by a middleweight adventure motorcycle.
The first category - ultra light, or dirt bikes, is around 100-140kg. The second is a bit more stretched, from 140 to around 220kg, and this is what I named Middleweight Adventure Motorcycles. Anything above will already be heavyweight, and I am not going to discuss them in this video.
These so-called "Middleweight Adventure Motorcycles" could also be split into two. The first up to 160kg, and the second up to 220-230kg.
The light models are: Honda CRF 250 or 300. BMW 310, KTM 390, 690, Husqvarna 701, or GAS GAS ES 700, even though the last 2 also belong to the KTM group. Some other models like AJP PR7, KOVE 450, and a few more exotic models.
The second category is where all the brands are focused now. Honda Transalp 750, Yamaha Tenere 700, KTM 790, 890, Suzuki V-Strom 650, 800, Honda CB500X, Honda Africa Twin, Royal Enfield Himalayan, CF Moto 450. The last two, the Himalayan CF Moto, even though they are only 450cc, they weigh about the same as others; that's why I put them here.
Keep in mind that these are categories created for the idea of this video, to help me present my opinion in a more understandable way. Now, two important questions: For whom and for what are these motorcycles designed?
