This is a quick video to talk about Ebenezer Scrooge and the real reason he's an antagonist.

Chances are that you'll be seeing a lot of renditions of Charles Dickens' classic novel, A Christmas Carol. And a lot of people seem to think that what makes Ebenezer Scrooge a bad person or character is that he hates Christmas. However, that's not really his major issue.
Think about. If your fiancee left you during Christmas, you'd hate Christmas too. It would be a reminder that the person you loved left you. Also, I've heard that more suicides occur between Thanksgiving and Christmas than the rest of the year combined. So can we really look down upon someone who doesn't like this time of year because of bad memories and depression?
The real problem with Scrooge is that he doesn't spend money. He is cheap and acquires money with no real intention of spending it. He loves money that much.
He's even in the business of loaning money to others so that he can take more of their money later and add it to his pot.
Scrooge doesn't participate in the economy. Yes, he'll buy his basic necessities, but he won't buy other things that would put his accumulated wealth back into the economy. And that's the problem. There is nothing wrong with having a lot of money and wealth, but when that individual doesn't spend the money so that the economy is steady, the individual is hurting everyone with their wealth.
To make things worse for Scrooge, the Christmas season is a time that encourages spending and adding wealth back into the economy, which makes perfect sense as to why Scrooge would not celebrate Christmas. He probably wouldn't like Black Friday either. Society is telling him to spend and he just doesn't want to.
So hopefully you can watch your favorite version of A Christmas Carol with a different perspective this year. And remember, the real tragedy is someone who takes, takes , takes, takes, takes, and doesn't give anything back.
