I review and compare Vera Caspary’s classic mystery novel LAURA to its much more famous iconic film adaptation from 1944. Each has its own strengths but the novel has a great deal more insight into the cast of characters. Most striking is the construction of the novel where each each section is narrated by a different character. The film tightens some of the story elements very nicely for narrative focus but one can’t help but wish some of the book’s extra characterization detail had made it through.
