MARK from Talk Beliefs presents a photo-illustrated interview with MARSHA METZ, as part of a series on religious 'boot camps' and reform schools.
Punishments, push-ups, incarcerations - all in the name of God. Christian 'behavioral modification camps' exist to do one thing - take a child or teen who is not behaving in the Christian way, and fix them. Most are taken there against their will, and many cannot leave even after their 18th birthday.
MARSHA METZ is 43 years old and lives near Seattle, a survivor still haunted by her years in Escuela Caribe - a Christian reform camp in the Dominican Republic. From 16 to 19, she endured scrutiny and harsh punishments from employees meant to be caring houseparents and people of God.
Here, Marsha speaks out with passion and great attention to detail about her time at the camp, and how it has affected her life since her return home.
Today, she runs a support group for other survivors of Escuela Caribe.
