In 1996, Rage Against the Machine released one of the most politically explosive albums in rock history. But Evil Empire almost never happened. Crippling internal tensions, violent arguments, and a near-permanent breakup nearly ended the band before a single note was recorded. What saved them, and what they made when they finally found their footing, changed rock music forever.
