“The Quiet Between Wings and Footsteps”
(by Ian Sanborn)

-----------------------

The storm begins.
The trees sway back and forth—steady, alive, and listening.
A mother bird returns to her nest with food.
Three baby birds are ready to fly—he, she, they, and even them.

He takes off first, full of confidence.
She follows, wings wide in the wind.
They try—but fall.
Them too—still learning to trust the air.

Then something unexpected happens.
The hare steps in.
They and them fall into fur instead of earth.
That soft bounce gives them all one more chance to rise.

It reminded me of an old Aesop’s fable: the hare and the turtle.
The hare ran fast, got distracted, and lost.
The turtle moved slowly, patiently—and won.

But this time, the hare learns.
He doesn’t rush ahead.
She stays present.
They and them notice.
And someone helps.

That moment of care changes everything.

Sometimes someone flies.
Sometimes someone falls.
Sometimes someone lifts another up.
Each moment matters—together, they yield insight.

This connects with what we’ve all been learning—about breaking through frozen language, letting it thaw and move again.
Sign language and spoken language were both created by brilliant people.
Different in form, equal in depth and beauty.

Our ancestors didn’t want us stuck.
They wanted us to grow—without forgetting how we began.

How far we’ve come.
The beauty of sign.
And the strength of showing up for one another.

Next time all see the moon, what to remember:
We rise better when we rise together.

The onion effect, trying to relearn what it means. Life is incredible! Where's the turtle... be patience. Yes, it is a silent film.
