Romancing the Gothic | The Queer Gothic and William Godwin with Simon Clewes @RomancingTheGothic | Uploaded April 2022 | Updated October 2024, 1 day ago.
This week, we were joined by scholar Simon Clewes to talk William Godwin. Their talk 'Reimagining the Paranoid Gothic: Productive Transgressions, Non-Reproductive Desire, and Gender Non-Conformity in the Writing of William Godwin' introduces us to Godwin and the queer elements in his texts. They challenge the dominant reading of the paranoid Gothic as queerphobic and suggest the possibilities that lie within the intense relationships and ambiguities of Godwin's work.
