A full remaster of QUAKE II has released on August 10th 2023, and I've played everything this new game has to offer.
From the press release:
"Enjoy the original, authentic version of Quake II, now enhanced with up to 4K* and widescreen resolution support, enhanced models, improved animations and gore, improved and restored AI behaviors, enhanced cinematics, dynamic and colored lighting, anti-aliasing, depth of field, and the original, heavy rock soundtrack by Sonic Mayhem.
Go beyond Quake II with both original mission packs, “The Reckoning,” and “Ground Zero,” as well as “Call of the Machine”, a brand-new, full-length Quake II experience from MachineGames. In addition, every level from Nintendo’s classic Quake II 64 is included."
This is the best example of a classic PC game being remastered in the modern era, complete with all preiously released content, brand new content that exceeds the original in quality, and for the first time ever, an attempt to archive the production history of the game through a new feature called the 'id Vault.' This is no joke.
