In this video, I take a look at The Pyramid of the Sun God, the thrilling conclusion to The Treasure of the Aztecs and the final Robert Siodmak film included in Eureka Entertainment's Adventure Calls! Karl May at CCC Limited Edition box set.
Starring Lex Barker as Dr. Karl Sternau, the film picks up immediately after the dramatic cliffhanger ending of The Treasure of the Aztecs, continuing the search for the legendary Aztec treasure while raising the stakes with more action, more danger, and a hugely entertaining finale.
For me, this second half improves on its predecessor, delivering a more focused adventure that rewards sticking with the story right through to its explosive conclusion.

Released in 1965 and directed by Robert Siodmak, The Pyramid of the Sun God continues immediately after the events of The Treasure of the Aztecs, making the two films feel like one epic serial adventure split into two parts.
After surviving the cliffhanger ending of the previous film, Dr. Karl Sternau resumes his search for the legendary Aztec treasure. But he's far from the only one seeking its riches. Ruthless bandits, ambitious aristocrats, military forces, and ancient guardians all stand between Sternau and the treasure hidden deep within an ancient volcanic pyramid.
Like the best classic adventure stories, the film never stands still. There are daring escapes, betrayals, hidden caves, ancient secrets, dramatic confrontations, and a spectacular finale that finally reveals the fate of the legendary treasure.
Where The Treasure of the Aztecs sometimes felt weighed down by introducing characters and plotlines, The Pyramid of the Sun God benefits from getting straight to the action. The pacing feels tighter, the adventure more focused, and the payoff far more satisfying.
Lex Barker once again makes for an effortlessly likeable hero, carrying the film with his calm screen presence, while Robert Siodmak demonstrates exactly why he was such a gifted storyteller. Although best remembered today for his film noirs, he proves equally comfortable delivering grand-scale adventure filled with excitement and spectacle.
For me, this is a far more satisfying conclusion than I expected and a reminder of just how enjoyable these forgotten European adventure films can be.
