Single part fertilizers are grainy powders that growers can add directly to their system water in a certain ratio (for example, 1 Tbsp per gallon).

While one-part fertilizers are easier and simpler to use, however, there are two major disadvantages: they are more expensive and growers lose the ability to adjust one nutrient at a time in the solution.
Expense: Because they are pre-mixed, the cost of the labor to mix the fertilizer is usually included in the price of a one-part fertilizer.
Adjustment: Being able to adjust nutrients one by one can be a real benefit. If a water source has a lot of phosphorus in it, for example, it’s good to be able to create a recipe that adds less phosphorus. If the fertilizer is pre-mixed, then the grower loses that ability.
