The Prometheus Design is #5 in the Pocket Books series of Star Trek novels. It was written by Sondra Marshak and Myrna Culbreath, fan fiction writers who had also written 2 previous novels, The Price of the Phoenix and The Fate of the Phoenix. The Kirk/Spock sexual undertones are toned down even more in The Prometheus Design, but it's still there -- plenty of scenes with. It's a rollicking and imaginative adventure that I enjoyed quite a bit, actually, even though I didn't expect to.
